31 Aug 2018: "Suggstions from a White Feminist Poet" by Tova Charles

  1. WOW. The crecendos and falls to this poem are miraculous, jarring and hard- harder than punctuation and meaning themselves. She performs the emotion so incredibly well. I wonder if we would have been able to come close in reading this ourselves? It's the poet behind the poem that makes the most sense.

  2. This one is for listening, for sure!

Is the white feminist poet any different than anyone else? I keep thinking about this, we all are similar wants and ambitions. Of course, in America, and most of the world, being white means you have one less obstacle to tackle. I like how the white feminist poet is defensive about not having additional intersectionalities. She knows it's easier for her, but still wants what she wants. I know I'm not supposed to sympathize with the white feminist (and I sympathize with women of color and greater diversities more), but I still do.
