18 Feb: "Hinges" by Shel Silverstein

  1. When I think of a hinge I think of and opening and closing, or I think of a hip hinge in a deadlift- a proper way to bend up/down.

The idea of a hinge is to move only two ways...open to close as he describes in the picture. But what about all of the energy "leaks" that may seep out of the sides of the hinge. As we are taking out the bad stuff, doesn't some of the good stuff float out as well? And when we put in good stuff it just seems that some bad stuff can sneak in through the opening.

  2. The narrator assumes that the origens of our sins take place in our head; and if people had a choice, they would remove them. This seems to imply that people do not have complete agency over there actions and sins. If kids were taught that lessons and people had that mindset, how much better would our correctional facilities be? Would we have less prisons and prisoners? Did you see 13 yet?
