25 Sep: "The Hollow Men" part 3

https://allpoetry.com/The-Hollow-Men

                   III

    This is the dead land
    This is cactus land
    Here the stone images
    Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

    Is it like this
    In death's other kingdom
    Waking alone
At the hour when we are
    Trembling with tenderness
    Lips that would kiss
    Form prayers to broken stone.

  1. I picture a cemetery when I read this, headstones, honoring the dead. Does it feel like the death of fallen brothers of war? Is cactus land on home territory or in the land of war, a foreign land?

Supplication: the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly. "he fell to his knees in supplication"

    Regret of death.
