5 Sep: "The Forgotten Man" by Edwin Markham

I came across this poem reading Nancy Isenberg's White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America. The book is pretty interesting (a bit too detailed for my interest, but interesting still). In one sentence, the book is about the social, political, and historical class warfare between the white elite and poor whites, or white trash, from colonial days to today. The poem below captures or represents The Great Depression era sentiment of the poor whites perspective.

  1. This fits for any oppressed people. Who really achieves greatness by the literal work of only their own hands. Instead the forgotten people labor often unappreciated and forgotten.

What about the forgotten woman, she isn't even acknowledged to be forgotten. Who can we assumed cooked, cleaned, raised, and did the house work for these men but their mothers, wives, and daughters. I'd like to not forget them either!
