30 Nov: "The Old Wisdom" by Jane Goodall

When the night wind makes the pine trees creak
And the pale clouds glide across the dark sky,
Go out my child, go out and seek
Your soul: The Eternal I.

For all the grasses rustling at your feet
And every flaming star that glitters high
Above you, close up and meet
In you: The Eternal I.

Yes, my child, go out into the world; walk slow
And silent, comprehending all, and by and by
Your soul, the Universe, will know
Itself: the Eternal I.

  1. The eternal I. There is a cyclical nature of seeking and understanding that the narrator has discovered and wants the audience to go out and learn. Science to the soul

  2. Who is the author writing as? As if "The Eternal" and "I" are the same person. The Eternal is the Author, or as you mentioned, the "I" has already taken a leg of this journey and speaks with the Eternal with wisdom. We see this perspective on journeying to find a lot...particularly with life wisdom. She can know and the Eternal can know, but we must know too...and experience.

Jane Goodall is speaking at the same conference as Obama here today at the Honolulu Convention Center. You needed tickets way in advance so I didn't have the opportunity to attend. What a "Leaver" (Ishmael) is she.
