This is a small poetry club that started as a poetry email exchange between two friends. Our goal is to read a poem everyday, and this blog is one way to help keep us accountable. There is only one valid rule in poetry club: there are no rules in poetry club. Read any poem, in any order, with any or no interactions. You decide. We only suggest you read poetry!

16 Oct: "The Paradox of Life" by Piet Hein
A bit beyond perception’s reach
I sometimes believe I see
that life is two locked boxes
each containing the other’s key.
I love this little paradox. I'd say this is a great metaphor for the purpose of life. Many people think they know, but there is so much beyond perception's reach, and then the answers are locked in boxes that cannot be opened.

ReplyDeleteMaybe the answer lies not in the keys themselves, but figuring out how to dissolve the boxes all together.
