for a teller not yet born,

where everything round is good:

Tell Me I'm Fat is an interesting talk on the same issue.
I'm a bit conflicted here. Mental health trumps physical health, and I'm all for strong self efficacy, confidence, and self love.
ReplyDeleteI was talking about this at lunch the other day. Poverty and Obesity in the U.S. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3198075/) found that, "Americans who live in the most poverty-dense counties are those most prone to obesity." That is crazy! People were not evolved to have such abundances and access to food, so that has to contribute. But still this is a serious health problem and environmental. It is hard for me to support such unhealthy and wasteful lifestyles.
Still, I don't think people who are obese should be discriminated as our society does. Battery going to die.
The podcast brings up a distinction between people who can/could lose weight and people who cannot. I don't doubt that for some people, but the poverty issue tells another story. America's poor are uneducated. And being uneducated is the real problem. Parents do not understand how eating affects their children's lives and health which is another giant can or worms.
DeleteThe poem brings up a great point. It's okay for older gramma characters to be cubby or fat, but not the young and pretty princesses. This is pop culture. It is getting better: the T.V. show This is Us has a main character similar to the narrator or the guests on the podcast. Giving more roles and portraying fat women as more than the funny friend will help change societies views. Maybe even produce that fair tale with the fat girl.
